Reformer ($)

Expand your Pilates horizon in this mixed-level workout on the reformer. Find the symmetry, connection, and stability that your body needs. An alternative choice to private sessions, this class will improve your posture and strengthen your entire core.

The reformer invites the length we want to create in our bodies as it is large enough to allow for full-range joint movements. The springs of the reformer are set-up for eccentric contractions, one of the keys to achieving the long, lean muscles that Pilates is known for. During eccentric contractions, muscles lengthen while holding tension to resist forces, strengthening the body, and increasing bone density. We’ll apply the Pilates classical order of exercises in this low impact, small group class. You will learn proper setup and flow through a series of movements with an emphasis on technique. Be prepared to work hard using the Pilates principles: concentration, control, centering, precision, breathing, and flow. All levels welcome! Start with Basic Reformer for a beginner’s level.

We highly encourage taking 2–3 private sessions before entering any Reformer or Tower classes. These sessions will enable you to understand the fundamentals of Pilates and keep you safe throughout your training. Please note, a 24 hour notice is required to cancel or reschedule.

What you’re working

What to expect
The reformer is versatile; you may find yourself standing, lying, seated, pulling on the straps, or perched on the foot bar in this class. Expect a full body workout following the classical Pilates sequence. Push, pull, hold steady against resistance from springs, gravity, and your own bodyweight. To master ultimate control, these movements require alignment, focus, and intension. By practicing awareness of your strengths and weaknesses, you’ll stand taller, sleep sounder, grow stronger, and be in better control of your body.

What to wear
Comfortable workout attire (nothing too loose) allowing the instructor to see your body alignment for proper correction. Please do not wear clothes with zippers or buttons on the backside as you will be moving while on your back. Your choice of bare feet or socks.
